Sony Xperia Z1 Compact: Android smartphone produced by Sony

Sony has made a concerted effort to ensure that despite the Z1 Compact’s diminished dimensions, it still retains all the key elements that made the Z1 a great flagship.

Introducing the Xperia Z1 Compact

The Xperia Z1 Compact is everything you expect in a premium smartphone, beautifully crafted to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. Capture stunningly beautiful photos and videos using the same technology as featured in our compact digital cameras.

The Compact has preserved the same design and overall feel of its bigger brother, as well as its processor and camera, but comes encased in a water and dust proof 4.3” full HD display, and not 5” as on the Z1.

Despite the obvious size difference, Sony has also shaved some weight off, with Z1 Compact coming in at 137 g compared to the Z1’s 169 g. The Sony Xperia Z1 Compact looks like a fun-sized version of the 5-inch Xperia Z1. And that is a very good thing.

The Z1 Compact is powered by a 2.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB of RAM and Android 4.3 (Jellybean). This adds up to an extremely fluid, responsive and intuitive unit, which is superbly highlighted by the newly fitted IPS display (1280x780).

The chassis, measuring at 127 x 64.9 x 9.55mm, curves slightly at the edges allowing the screen to be protected from side impacts, as well as allowing it to sit comfortably in the hand.

A great display makes all the difference in this iteration, with smaller versions of flagships often fitted with lackluster screens. The Z1 Compact remains bright and vivid in darker lighting conditions, but struggles in lighter ones, again due to its highly reflective surface.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact Feature

Featuring a camera as good as our compact digital cameras, this advanced camera phone comes with Superior Auto. This default camera setting recognises up to 36 scene types and adjusts the settings automatically, so you can get the best photos, anywhere and at any time. So sit back, enjoy the moment and let your Xperia Z1 Compact do the thinking for you.

Sony has provided the Compact with the same ports as the Z1, sealing the micro SD, mini USB, micro SIM card slots with detachable covers. The dock connector however, still remains an exposed eyesore, as it was with the Z1, seemingly ruining an otherwise clean frame.

Also retained are the ANT+ wireless, Bluetooth 4.0,NFC and multiple LTE band connectivity, which make the Compact a solid multi-tasker. The microUSB port and microSD slot (the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact supports up to a further 64GB of storage) are housed at the top of the left side, with the microSIM tray sat at the base.

The Xperia Transfer is an ultra-easy and safe app that’ll help you move your contacts, photos, bookmarks, apps, music, messages and much more from your old Android or iOS device to your new Xperia Z1 Compact. And with Xperia Transfer Mobile, the switch is now even easier. No need to use your PC or Mac. Transfer directly from phone to phone.
