Google acquires Browser-Based Malware Scanner VirusTotal.com

Google, The search giant is known for gobbling-up companies big and small, and their latest acquisition includes Browser-Based Malware Scanner VirusTotal.com.

VirusTotal.com is a popular web service which scans suspicious files and URLs for detection of malwares. The service had made its mark as a powerful utility since its inception in 2004.

It is a highly acclaimed tool which allows users to scan online, files up to the size of 32 MB facilitating timely detection of Trojans, worms and viruses.

Now, VirusTotal.com has been acquired by Google, The announcement was made through VirusTotal’s blog, which declared the acquisition as “… great news for you, and bad news for malware generators”.

This move from Google is expected to enhance the security side of Google products which include its popular search engine, Google Chrome and other web applications.

The security firm joins the list of Google’s recent acquisitions that include e-mail app developer Sparrow, QuickOffice, and Motorola Mobility.
